Paul Tiplady BA (Hons) MA MSc FLI MRTPI
Paul is a Chartered Landscape Architect and Chartered Town Planner; and is Director of Craggatak Consulting, a countryside management practice with extensive experience in landscape planning and management, stakeholder engagement and assessment and sustainability.
Paul’s career started in 1977 as a countryside warden working in Bolton Council’s Croal-Irwell River Valley Service followed by 11 years with Essex County Council, managing its recreational estate and ranger service. Paul then spent five years as the Chief Officer of the Sussex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Conservation Board, where he developed the AONB management model set out in the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. Paul was the Chief Executive of the Lake District National Park Authority from 1998–2007. Since leaving the National Park Authority, Paul has undertaken commissions throughout the United Kingdom with local and central government departments and agencies, several NGOs, and a number of professional bodies.
Simon Hooton
After starting work with the BTCV and The Volunteer Centre, UK, Simon worked in protected landscapes in East Anglia including the Upper Waveney Valley, Brecks, Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB and The Broads. This stretched from practical work across many habitats and recreation settings, through to interpretation and education activities, fundraising and EU projects, supporting volunteers and leading teams up to 50 strong.
With early retirement he continues his communication interests running courses, guided walks, talks and drama and still leading a team of conservation volunteers every month.
