Join us to look at and discuss opportunities and challenges which have resulted from land coming back in hand through tenancy changes.

At this year’s South West Ranger Forum we will be visiting the National Trust’s Sherborne Estate in Gloucestershire to look at a range of opportunities including arable reversion/grassland restoration, floodplain meadow restoration and woodland creation.

The event will start with an introductory talk and short slide show at Sherborne Social Club. We will then visit the sites and discuss the projects introduced.

Site visits:

  • Sherborne Farm arable reversion. 48ha grassland restoration, hedge planting in-field trees and scrub. Planning Stage
  • Greater Western Community Forest planting. 45,000 trees, mix of closed canopy planting, wood pasture and coppice, being delivered through a licence/tenancy agreement. Planting Complete
  • Windrush wetlands. 78ha of water meadows and floodplain meadows, ripe for restoration. 3km stretch over river and 2km of tributary brook. Feasibility Stage
  • Access planning across the whole.

Tea/coffee and biscuits provided, but please bring a packed lunch. The Village shop sells sandwiches but is a small-scale operation with limited supplies. There is also a café 3km/2 miles away on the A40.

This event is kindly organised by the National Trust in partnership with the CMA.
