Harbour Horizons: Restoring Habitats, Reconnecting Nature

Date/Time

 11 September 2025
 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us in Poole Harbour for a journey on habitat restoration, species reintroduction and eco-tourism to revive our natural landscapes.

Poole Harbour and the surrounding area has been ever changing since its first inhabitants. Fast forward to now where the pressures of climate change, sea level rises, economic and social growth are battling it out with habitat restoration, species reintroduction and protection of green spaces.

This trip will take us to some places where organisations are trying to make a difference. We will have talks from local experts about the areas we travel and the ongoing projects. We will discuss the opportunities and threats these organisations are dealing with. This may give you an insight to your own projects or activities in your own area.

The main discussions will be around Purbeck Heaths NNR and Beaver reintroduction. Osprey reintroduction and eco-tourism. Arne moors project creating wetland habitats and more about the harbour itself.

Don’t forget to bring your binoculars as throughout the trip we may catch a glimpse of the harbour’s wildlife from ospreys, white tailed sea eagles, harbour and grey seals and much more.

This event is being hosted onboard a passenger vessel for approx. 3 hours.

Bring your own drinks/snacks, or there is a small bar on board with hot and cold drinks and some small snacks for sale.

Please bring appropriate clothing for the weather on the day, it can be cold on the water even in the summer!  The vessel has limited access, please consult the link for further information.
