The woodfair objective is to provide an inspirational enjoyable and entertaining family day out whilst demonstrating a range of practical rural skills which are seldom found in today's woodlands.

The Event will concentrate on how Defence Estates manages public access on their second largest military training base, whilst also meeting the purposes of a National Park. The day will comprise of an indoor presentation to set the scene followed by site visits to view interpretation mediums and sites of interest across one of the remotest parts of the Northumberland National Park

The day will offer the opportunity to experience different elements of the Youth Ranger Training Course outlined below;
This course will follow the modules of the Youth Ranger programme; survival skills, navigation, interpretation and conservation, with participants being given an opportunity to develop skills and experience in these areas, as well as considering leadership issues and health and safety. Opportunities to consider sources of support and ways to link these activities into the curriculum will also be considered.
It is a skills-based course, designed to provide practical know-how in the outdoors. Basic skills such as safe use of cutting tools, firecraft and shelter building will be taught; ideas and techniques to develop interpretation and conservation skills will also be introduced. All in the context of providing a safe but stimulating outdoor classroom.
The course is particularly suited to rangers , education and community officers who are looking for outdoor activities to run with young people or considering running the Youth Ranger Programme with the Peak District National Park.

This study day aims to equip rangers and other countryside staff in lowland areas of the UK with the knowledge to suitably prepare for missing person incidents.
The day will give an overview of search and rescue in the UK, detail the lowland search and rescue process, discuss the ideal of pre-planning, explain the initial steps rangers may undertake and provide an opportunity to discuss how to improve participant’s current missing person procedures.
